People Can Fly confirmed that their upcoming project, initially codenamed Maverick, will be a Gears of War game. The title, now going by Gears of War: E-Day, was first reported in June 2023; Eurogamer reports the project will be fully funded by Microsoft with a budget of $30 to $50 million (USD).

The confirmation occurred on the development studio’s website, located towards in the ‘about us’ section.

“PCF Group S.A. is currently working on seven projects: Gemini, a new AAA game developed in partnership with global publisher Square Enix; Maverick (Gears of War: E-Day), in collaboration with Microsoft,” it reads.

Prior to its official public confirmation, media outlets had already assumed that the game would be a Gears of War entry – this is because People Can Fly co-developed Gears of War: Judgement in 2013 and had prior experience porting older Gears of War titles.

Gears of War: E-Day is supposedly a spinoff to the series. The Coalition developed both Gears of War 4 and 5; they are expected to continue serving as the lead development studio for the mainline title installments for the Gears of War franchise, while People Can Fly helps handle other side projects.
