Key points
  1. Rod Fergusson, General Manager for all things Diablo, stated that a Diablo 4 port for the Nintendo Switch 2 is possible.
  2. The biggest obstacle with a Diablo 4 port is the difficulties that come with publishing a live-service title on Switch.
  3. According to Fergusson, the Switch 2 has the performance that can run a game like Diablo 4.

A Diablo 4 port for the Nintendo Switch 2 is very much possible – a speculation shared by Rod Fergusson during an interview with Danny Peña. According to the interview, the limiting factor would not be the hardware of the Switch 2 – but more so from publishing a live-service title on Nintendo’s platform.

The topic of a Diablo IV port for the Switch 2 came up during a conversation regarding the upcoming console. “The Switch 2 that just got announced. As a gamer, what are your thoughts about it?” Danny Pena asked Rod Fergusson.

“There is opportunity there for sure. We have Diablo 3 and Diablo 2: resurrected, which is already on the Switch. And with backwards compatibility, it will be playable on Switch 2. It’s nice that the Switch 2 has the performance that can run a game like Diablo 4. So it’s something to look at for sure,” Rod Fergusson answered.

Rod Fergusson goes on to explain that the challenges are not focused so much around the hardware but more so around the difficulties that come with publishing a live-service title on the Nintendo Switch – a platform that “have been a little challenging in the past.”

“I’m hopeful that as they launch this June and as we look to the future that it becomes easier and easier so it makes more sense to put a live service on that platform,” he concluded on the matter.

Diablo IV released on June 1, 2023 on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S and One, and PC. The title amassed 12 million players around two months after its initial release, an achievement aided by its robust multiplayer features, which includes supporting cross platform play.
