Diablo 4’s Next Season Lets Players Use Boss Abilities on Their Journey

|
- Diablo 4’s next season receives a mechanic that allows players to wield boss powers.
- In total, players will be able to wield four of them. One will be the main power, while the other three will provide modifier effects for the main boss power.
- Diablo 4’s next season will arrive on April 29.
Diablo 4’s next season, Belial’s Return, will feature boss powers players can obtain by defeating the respective bosses who wield those abilities. Players can equip four boss powers. One of them is going to be the main power, and the other three will be modifiers.
According to the patch notes for the new season dropping on April 29, there are 24 boss powers that players can get. All of them will have a main effect and a modifier effect. Boss powers placed in the main power slot will be the spotlight of this mechanic, while the others will simply provide modifiers for the main boss power equipped.
Most major bosses in the game have boss powers that players can harness. Lilith and Belial are a part of this, but players may only get their powers if they’ve defeated them in Torment 1 difficulty or higher. The boss powers of the Wandering Death and Ashava can be obtained at any difficulty level.
Aside from this, there will be a major change to how the game’s battle pass will work. Reliquaries will replace the current battle pass. There will be four of them, one being free and the other three paid by platinum, Diablo 4’s paid currency. Belial’s Return, the free battle pass, will contain platinum that players can redeem to help with the cost of the other three paid reliquaries.
According to the developers, each reliquary will contain cosmetics that players can redeem using favor coins. This season’s reliquaries are named Weapons, Beasts, and Armor. Each of these has cosmetics related to its name. The aforementioned favor coins can only be obtained by slaying monsters and completing quests.
The developers also mentioned that some IP collaboration will have their own reliquaries. Considering that the Berserk collaboration is going to be Diablo’s very first external IP collaboration, it’s expected to have its reliquary. The collaboration will start on May 6 and end on June 3.
Diablo 4’s eighth season, Belial’s Return, will launch on April 29 and will last until July. With that being said, the season 8 patch notes did not mention the anniversary at all, which happens on June 1.
