Sony has officially announced that its PlayStation 5 exclusive Ghost of Yōtei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, is slated for release on Oct. 2, 2025.
Developed by Sucker Punch Productions with Sony Interactive Entertainment as the publisher, the game also revealed a new trailer, The Onryō’s List.
Set in 1603 at the dawn of the Edo period, Ghost of Yōtei will take players to the land of Ezo, home to Mount Yōtei. In the new setting, players will take on the role of Atsu, a character who lost her family in a slaughter by Yōtei Six 16 years ago. As Atsu survived, she taught herself how to fight, and players are about to follow her list of revenge, which includes The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon and Lord Saito.
The game’s known weapons roster includes the ōdachi (a large, two-handed sword), the kusarigama (a chain-and-sickle weapon) and dual katanas.
The first installment in the series, Ghost of Tsushima, has surpassed 13 million copies sold globally as of September 2024, with 2.4 million units sold within its first three days after release.
It is worth noting that Sony has recently announced that Ghost of Tsushima is being adapted into an anime series titled Legends. The adaptation, slated to premiere in 2027, is being developed by Aniplex, the studio behind Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
