Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has warned that a significant number of players in Japan are about to miss out on their Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, as 2.2 million players applied for the My Nintendo Store pre-order lottery.
In the post on X (formerly Twitter), Furukawa stated that since April 2, 2025, when the company announced the details of Nintendo Switch 2 and began accepting applications for a lottery sale on the My Nintendo Store, Nintendo received applications from 2.2 million people in Japan alone. This number exceeds the company’s prior expectations and surpasses the number of console units Nintendo is able to deliver on launch day, June 5, 2025.
”Consequently, it is with great regret that we anticipate a significant number of customers will not be selected in tomorrow’s lottery announcement on April 24,” said Furukawa in his statement.
The Nintendo president also stated that players who won’t be selected in the initial drawing will be automatically reentered into the next round of the lottery.
According to the statement, the company is currently taking steps to further strengthen the production system in response to such demand.
The news comes on the heels of Nintendo’s official announcement that Switch 2 pre-orders will begin in the US on April 24, 2025, with the original price of $449.99, while all console accessories went up in price.
