Key points
  1. Roblox launches Regional Pricing tool for in-experience items, adjusting costs based on users’ local economies.
  2. Testing results show significant boosts in international spending, with up to 52% increases in the Philippines, 17% in Mexico and 26% in Brazil.
  3. Roblox is also expanding access to its Price Optimization tool for creators with at least 60,000 transactions in a month.

Roblox has launched Regional Pricing for in-experience items, a major update that automatically adjusts prices in Robux based on local economic conditions. The move aims to help creators earn more by making digital items more accessible to users around the world.

With Regional Pricing turned on, a base price of 1,000 Robux set by the creator might go for 700 Robux in Brazil or 500 in India. Instead of a one-size-fits-all cost, prices now flex based on where a player lives. According to testing, after the implementation of the tool, spending on in-game items from creators jumped 17% in Mexico, 26% in Brazil, and 52% in the Philippines.

“We want 10% of the $180 billion global gaming content market to flow through the Roblox ecosystem,” the company said at RDC 2024 regarding the Regional Pricing tool.

On top of that, Roblox has also been expanding access to its Price Optimization tool, which helps creators fine-tune item prices based on real-time player behavior. Creators with at least 60,000 transactions in a month can now run tests that recommend smarter pricing.

As and example of the Price Optimization tool’s efficiency, Roblox refers in its blog to a case of Slap Battles by developer Tencell. After running a pricing test, they saw earnings rise by more than 15%. “The high scale of data in the Price Optimization tests lets us take the guesswork out of choosing how much to charge,” Tencell said.

Roblox was released in 2006 as a game creation system and an online game platform. Players can browse different games in a catalog and pick one they want to play. From simple games like paintball and haunted houses, Roblox has evolved to a platform that can house huge games like MMOs and multiplayer tactical shooters.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, Roblox Corporation reported revenue of $988.2 million, marking a 32% year-over-year increase. For the full year of 2024, the company’s annual revenue reached $3.6 billion, up 29% from the previous year.
