Japanese Scalpers Reportedly Having Difficulties Selling Nintendo Switch 2 Consoles

|
- A report by NintendoSoup claims that Japanese scalpers are selling Switch 2 consoles close to the normal price.
- The reason for this is due to Nintendo’s new policy regarding warranties.
- Switch 2 consoles are still hard to come by in the country.
On July 7, 2025, NintendoSoup published a report claiming that scalpers in Japan are having trouble selling their Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. According to the report, the scalpers have been seen selling the consoles close to their retail price.
Scalpers often buy limited-stock items to be able to sell them at a much higher price compared to what they paid for the item. However, NintendoSoup spotted that listings at a Japanese marketplace called Mercari have shown that some scalpers are selling their consoles for $413.
While this might seem cheap at first glance, this console version is the Japanese-Language System, which is only available in Japan. It costs around $343 and only works in Japan, according to an article by PCMag.
NintendoSoup claims that one listing that went for about $393 only broke even after applying platform fees and shipping of the product. The outlet also mentioned that the main reason scalpers are having trouble now is due to Nintendo’s updated policy regarding warranty.
The company now wants people to keep the receipts of their Switch 2s from the retailer where they bought the console. However, since receipts contain personal information from the scalpers, they usually do not include this whenever they sell the console to other people. Because of this, people are now wary of buying the console from scalpers.
The Nintendo Switch 2 console is still hard to come by in Japan, especially for those living in the cities. There have been rumors of the console being readily available in the countryside, but most people obtain theirs by entering a lottery and hoping they get picked.
