EA announced that it will stop development plans on future rally racing titles, with EA Sports WRC’s Hard Chargers Content pack being their last expansion for the game. The World Rally Championship also announced they are “going in an ambitious new direction,” suggesting their partnership with EA might have ended.
“Every great journey eventually finds its finish line, and today, we announce that we’ve reached the end of the road working on WRC,” read the blog post EA published, talking about the situation. “For now, we are pausing development plans on future rally titles. Rest assured, EA SPORTS WRC will continue to be available for existing and new players.”
FIA World Rally Championship also released a statement on Twitter regarding their partnership with EA. “Now, our WRC gaming franchise is going in an ambitious new direction with more news coming in the near future.”
EA Sports WRC was released on November 3, 2023. Developed by Codemasters, and published by EA Sports, the game received “Generally Favorable” reviews on Metacritic.
Recently, EA announced that it has canceled the development of an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe. Additionally, layoffs have also happened across its studios. Bloomberg reported that 300-400 employees might have been fired.
