In an effort to “sharpen their focus for the future,” Respawn announced that it is laying off workers across Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series. According to IGN, around 100 employees were affected. Respawn’s layoffs were a part of EA’s bigger wave of job cuts, which reportedly impacted over 300 employees.

“These decisions aren’t easy, and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected – their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today. We’re offering meaningful support to those impacted, including exploring new opportunities within EA,” Respawn shared on social media.

IGN reported that Apex Legends workers affected by the changes include a mix of developers, publishing and QA workers. As for the Star Wars Jedi team, individuals working on the incubation projects were laid off. Incubation projects refer to the initial phase of a new business or product’s development.

Though the teams faced layoffs, development for both Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series is still ongoing. “Within the Star Wars universe, we’re excited to keep building new stories – with the next chapter of the Star Wars Jedi series aiming to raise the bar again for storytelling and gameplay,” the statement reads, indicating the third entry for the Jedi franchise is still in development.
