Blizzard has unveiled new details about the upcoming Housing system for World of Warcraft, outlining how players will earn, craft and collect decorations for their in-game homes. The information, published in an official developer blog, emphasizes that housing progression will be a long-term journey tied closely to existing gameplay systems.

According to Blizzard, most decorations will fall into three categories: commodity items easily acquired through vendors or basic activities, investment decor requiring more time or resources to obtain, and trophy items awarded through challenging achievements, raids, Mythic+ dungeons or long-term progression.

In line with this philosophy, Blizzard intends for the collection of decorations to feel like a progressive journey rather than something players can instantly complete. While basic furnishings like chairs and shelves will be readily accessible, rarer and more elaborate items — such as animated magical books or monster trophies — will require skillful play, cooperation and time investment.

The Housing rewards will be integrated into core World of Warcraft activities rather than isolated into a housing-specific grind. Decorations can be earned through questing, dungeons, raids, crafting and trading at the Auction House.

Most importantly, players’ prior achievements, reputations and professions will carry over into the Housing system. Past accomplishments will grant access to specific decor pieces immediately, and older expansion content will gradually receive new decorations without forcing players into heavy retroactive farming.

Housing will not require obtaining a new profession; instead of introducing a new profession, Blizzard will allow all existing non-gathering professions to craft decor tied to the version of their profession from each expansion. For instance, crafting Pandaria-themed decorations will require the Mists of Pandaria version of a profession at an appropriate skill level. Players will also need new expansion-specific crafting reagents alongside traditional materials.

Additionally, Blizzard confirmed that decor collections will be shared account-wide across all characters and Battle.net accounts, although players must collect multiple copies to place multiple instances of the same item. Unique decorations, such as rare trophies like Head of Onyxia, will be limited to a single placement per house.

The studio also teased the existence of “neighborhood-specific activities” related to housing, hinting at broader social and gameplay mechanics tied to player homes. Blizzard plans to continue expanding the catalog of available decorations through both future patches and retrospectives into older expansions.

More information about World of Warcraft’s Housing system is expected to be revealed during the Warcraft 30th Anniversary celebration at PAX East on May 9.

Housing is one of the most anticipated features ever added to World of Warcraft, fulfilling a long-standing request from players who have requested personal, customizable spaces within Azeroth for nearly two decades. The system is set to debut with the The War Within expansion, scheduled to launch later in 2025.
