GTA VI Trailer Hits 250 Million Views and Gets Special YouTube Playhead

Grand Theft Auto VI reached a milestone of 250 million views on its first and only trailer, which was released by Rockstar Games on Dec. 4, 2023. As a small congratulatory gesture, YouTube changed the usual red dot seen in video progress bars into a pink cake for the game’s trailer video.
At the time of writing, the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer also featured over 12 million Likes and 1,001,907 comments.
The eighth main Grand Theft Auto game, following Grand Theft Auto V, and the 16th entry overall will be set within an open world — the fictional US state of Leonida, based on Florida and its Miami-inspired Vice City. The story is expected to follow the criminal duo of Lucia and her male partner, whose name is yet to be revealed.
The game’s trailer broke the record for the most first-day views on a non-music YouTube video within the first 12 hours with 46 million views. Within 24 hours, it became the most-liked game trailer, with 8.9 million Likes. GTA VI’s trailer surpassed the lifetime viewership of Grand Theft Auto V’s 2011 reveal trailer within two days, with 101 million views. On top of that, the trailer’s featured song, “Love Is a Long Road” by Tom Petty, saw a nearly 37,000% increase in Spotify streams, had almost 250,000 searches on Shazam, and ranked second on the iTunes worldwide chart.
The game is scheduled to be released in late 2025 only for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
