- A turn-based strategy game set in the Rainbow Six universe is reportedly in development at Ubisoft.
- The game will have 25-30 hours of play time and will feature XCOM-style gameplay.
- Allegedly, Ubisoft is aiming for a current-generation console title release.
An XCOM-style game set in the Rainbow Six universe is reportedly in development at Ubisoft. The report came from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who published an article talking about the game on April 6.
According to the sources he spoke to, the studio aims to release the game as a current-generation console title for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and possibly Nintendo Switch 2.
One of the sources mentioned that the game is an updated version of XCOM featuring a top-down view and turn-based mechanics. This time, however, players will control operators from the Rainbow Six universe. The game will also have cinematic cutscenes. Overall, the developers are looking at 25-30 hours of gameplay, depending on player skill. This might change as the game is still in development.
Regarding the gameplay loop, the report said that it’s going to be pretty similar to Rainbow Six Siege, where players will choose maps and use their operators to save hostages, raid buildings, and defuse bombs. This time, it’s all turn-based, which gives players time to think of a much more intricate strategy.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical shooter game developed by Ubisoft. The game was initially released in 2015 and will receive a major update called Rainbow Six Siege X. The update is coming June 10.
