- GOG mentions that while it was already slated to be added at a later date, they expedited the process due to Monolith Productions’ sudden closure.
- F.E.A.R. is a First-person shooter developed by Monolith Productions.
F.E.A.R., a game developed by Monolith Productions in 2005 is being added to the preservation program that GOG has. GOG has announced the addition on its social media.
According to GOG, the main reason they’re adding F.E.A.R. is to “properly recognize Monolith’s contributions to gaming”. They added that the game was already slated to be added to the preservation program at a later date, but has expedited its addition to the program due to the sudden closure of the studio.
On February 25, Warner Bros. Games announced that it’s shutting down three of its studios: Player FIrst Games, WB Games San Diego, and Monolith Productions. Player First Games was responsible for Multiversus. WB Games San Diego was working on an unannounced project, which is now canceled due to the studio’s closing. Monolith Productions was working on a Wonder Woman game that is now also canceled.
Monolith Productions is known to introduce innovative ideas to the games they develop. Quite recently, their Middle Earth games have introduced a system called the nemesis system which garnered praise from players and developers alike. F.E.A.R. also introduced an innovative system when it was released back in 2005 called the Goal Oriented Action Planning (GOAP). This system made the enemy A.I. become much more believable as they can cooperate with each other and even do flanking maneuvers against the player.
F.E.A.R was released on October 18, 2005. The game was praised for its innovative A.I., graphics, sound design, and music among many more. An Xbox 360 version of the game was released in 2006 and a PlayStation 3 version followed the next year.
