Metro Series Creator Confirms New Game Is in the Works by 4A Games

The new Metro game is in development by 4A Games according to the author behind the Metro series, Dmitry Glukhovsky.

Although neither Glukhovsky nor 4A Games has revealed specifics about the next Metro installment, this confirmation aligns with previous reports that the studio has been working on a new Metro title for some time. In 2020, 4A Games announced that the next Metro game would be built for next-gen hardware.

While there is no official release window yet, 4A Games has previously hinted at incorporating multiplayer elements into the franchise while maintaining the core single-player experience.

The latest entry in the Metro franchise from 4A Games was Metro Exodus 2019, which sold over 10 million copies globally and expanded the franchise’s scope, introducing open-world elements while maintaining the series’ signature tension and resource management.

Although there has been no official announcement or reveal from 4A Games, Glukhovsky’s statement serves as the first confirmation that the next Metro game is indeed in active development.

For now Metro series includes:

  • Metro 2033 (2010), developed by 4A Games and published by THQ,
  • Metro: Last Light (2013), a sequel to Metro 2033 developed by 4A Games and published by Deep Silver,
  • Metro: Last Light Redux (2014), a remastered version of both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, developed by 4A Games and published by Deep Silver,
  • Metro Exodus (2019), developed by 4A Games and published by Deep Silver,
  • Metro Awakening (2024), a VR title, a spin-off game of the Metro franchise and a prequel to Metro 2033, Awakening, developed by Vertigo Games and published by Deep Silver.
