4A Games has confirmed that 4A Games Ukraine is now an entirely separate studio, operating independently under the new name Reburn. While the majority of 4A Games’ workforce remains in Ukraine, the company clarified that Reburn is no longer affiliated with 4A Games or the Metro franchise. The statement follows Reburn’s recent reveal of La Quimera, a futuristic first-person shooter.

The split traces back to 2014, when 4A Games’ original founders moved to Malta, forming 4A Games Limited as their new headquarters and relocating 50 team members. In 2019, following the launch of Metro Exodus, 4A Games Limited established a Kyiv-based studio, hiring 50 employees from its existing Ukrainian office. Over time, that branch evolved into 4A Games Ukraine, which later became Reburn, officially severing ties with its former parent company.

Reburn’s debut project, La Quimera, is a narrative-driven first-person shooter influenced by Latin American folklore. The game’s world and story are crafted by Nicolas Winding Refn, best known for directing Drive and The Neon Demon. While details remain scarce, the studio has teased a heavy focus on atmospheric storytelling, character development, and world-building.

Meanwhile, 4A Games remains focused on the Metro franchise, which is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels. The studio was originally founded in 2006 by ex-developers from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl creator GSC Game World.
