System Shock 2 Remaster Delayed on Consoles Due to Certification Process

- System Shock 2 Remaster has been delayed on consoles due to a certification process.
- The developers are still pushing the June 26 release date for PC despite the setback.
- System Shock 2 was initially released in 1999.
Nightdive Studios, the minds behind the System Shock 2 Remaster, announced that the game is being delayed on consoles. In a Bluesky post, the studio said that it has encountered issues preventing it from launching the game on Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation on June 26.
According to the developers, the exact reason for the delay is the certification process they need to go through to be able to release the game on consoles. Additionally, the developers are also working on “multiplayer-specific issues.”
System Shock 2 was initially released in 1999. It’s a survival horror game designed by Ken Levine, who then created the BioShock franchise. Two studios made the game: Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios.
Nightdive Studios got their hands on System Shock 2’s license after contacting the holder of the IP, Star Insurance Company. In 2013, the studio released the game on GOG with updated support for modern operating systems.
Aside from the delay for the consoles, Nightdive Studios is still going forward with the PC release of the game on June 26. It will be available on Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store and Humble. For the console release, the developers are now aiming for the first two weeks of July.
