ROG Xbox Ally X was dismantled by specialists from iFixit, receiving a 7/10 repairability score.
Priced at $999.99, the higher-end version of the first Xbox handhelds, created through the joint efforts of Microsoft and Asus, launched on Oct. 16, 2025, to lukewarm reviews.
It turned out that the device is easy to disassemble with just a screwdriver and a pick, and much easier than the Nintendo Switch 2, which received only a 3/10 repairability score from iFixit.
To get inside the console, only the back panel needs to be removed. Underneath the back panel, the battery and nearly all other components of the device are revealed, with the motherboard positioned behind them, followed by the display.
The battery of ROG Xbox Ally X can be removed without any trouble and the SSD is replaceable, though doing so will require going through the setup process when the device is powered on.
The analog sticks are prone to drift, but unlike those on the Switch 2, they are easy to replace.
The most difficult part to reach in ROG Xbox Ally X is the display, so iFixit specialists didn’t even attempt to remove it.
In addition to the fact that the display in the ROG Xbox Ally X is difficult to access, iFixit notes other shortcomings: as of now, Asus doesn’t provide any instructions for disassembling the device, and there are no spare parts available for purchase.
