Resident Evil 0 remake rumors reveal plot and casting details

The remake of Resident Evil 0, a prequel to the first game in Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise (1996’s Resident Evil), received some new details regarding its plot and casting.

According to a report from MP1st, the remake has been in development for a few years, being developed under the codename Chamber, with voice and performance capture work with new actors for the leads beginning at some point in 2024.

Regarding the casting details, one of the new cast members is Jon McLaren, known for playing Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in the 2021 game adaptation of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, who mentioned in his resume a lead role in the upcoming AAA video game Project Chamber, supervised by Beyond Capture Studios, a motion capture company that has previously collaborated with Capcom on titles such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.

Taking into account that the actor has a lead role in the project, it seems that McLaren is playing Billy Coen, the co-protagonist of Resident Evil 0, alongside the main character, Rebecca Chambers.

In terms of plot, reamke of Resident Evil 0 is expected to expand the story upon the source material while preserving core narrative.

In the remake, one of the new storylines expands on the game’s opening segment set on the train, focusing on the train conductor. Unlike the original game, where he was never seen and only mentioned through his office, the remake gives him a slightly more prominent role, according to a report from MP1st, which cites 2028 as the release window for the remake.

The story of the 2002’s survival horror game Resident Evil Zero takes place in July 1998 and follows officer Rebecca Chambers as well as convict Billy Coen as they explore an abandoned training facility for employees of the pharmaceutical company Umbrella.

As of the time of writing, the game has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with 10,600 reviews.
