Counter-Strike 2 is a server-based game that updates the game world in discrete intervals called ticks. This means that if the server runs at 128 ticks per second, it updates the game 128 times every second, and all player actions (shooting, moving, reloading) are processed within these discrete intervals.
A subtick system records player actions more precisely than the tick interval, processing player actions using timestamps between tick updates and making the registration of players’ actions more precise.
According to the patch notes posted on the game’s Steam page, the update brought various improvements to subtick shooting consistency, though the specific changes were not detailed.
Developed and published by Valve, Counter-Strike 2 was released on Sept. 27, 2023. Playable on Windows and Linux PCs, the game is the fifth entry in the Counter-Strike series and an updated version of the previous entry, 2012’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Like its predecessor, Counter-Strike 2 pits two teams, the Counter-Terrorists and the Terrorists, against each other in various objective-based game modes.
