The director of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 stated that the game is just the beginning of the series.
In an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, posted on Aug. 26, 2025, Guillaume Broche said, “Clair Obscur is a franchise name. Expedition 33 is one of the stories that we want to tell in this franchise.”
Broche also said that the concept for the next part of the series is already in the works but emphasized that it is too soon to make any official announcements.
Released on April 24, 2025, and developed by Sandfall Interactive and published by Kepler Interactive for PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 follows the story of the volunteers of Expedition 33 as they embark on a mission to eliminate the Paintress, a creature responsible for the annual, inevitable event called Gommage, which erases people at or above an ever-decreasing age.
The game sold its first million copies just three days after release, reached 2 million units sold nine days after that and celebrated 3.3 million copies sold 33 days after launch.
In January 2025, Story Kitchen, a company known for turning video games and other unconventional intellectual properties into films and TV series, announced it will produce a live-action adaptation of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in partnership with the game’s developer.
As of the time of writing, the game has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating with 106,665 reviews on Steam and an all-time peak of 145,063 concurrent players, according to SteamDB.
