Following its unlaunch until early 2026, Splitgate 2 continues to damage its credibility with players.
In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) on Aug. 21, 2025, the Splitgate 2 development team tried to hop on the hype train of the Stop Killing Games initiative by posting the campaign’s hashtag without backing it up with any statement.
The post was met with backlash, including a comment from an X (formerly Twitter) user NightwingAlex saying, “Guys, I don’t wanna be that guy, but you literally killed your second game as well.” The community echoed his statement and rebuked the devs and their attitude toward games in the thread under the above mentioned #StopKillingGames post.
Answering NightwingAlex, the Splitgate 2 devs asked for one more chance at a relaunch, supported with the folded hands 🙏 emoji, which in this context can be interpreted as a plea.
Within one month after its release on June 6, 2025, developed by 1047 Games, Splitgate 2 has seen several scandals that resulted in a series of apologies from its director Ian Proulx, studio staff layoffs, and a massive loss of its player base. On top of that, on Jul. 22, 2026 the game returned to open beta mode.
As of the time of writing, playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in its beta version, Splitgate 2 has a Mixed rating on Steam with 18,967 reviews and a weekly peak of concurrent players of less than 700, according to SteamDB.
