- Moon Studios’ CEO announced that No Rest for the Wicked may not release on Xbox consoles.
- The reasoning behind this is due to “market conditions.”
- The game is still slated to release on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
Moon Studios’ CEO Thomas Mahler announced on Discord that No Rest for the Wicked might not release on Xbox consoles due to “current market conditions.” The game is still slated to launch on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The CEO went on to explain the statement more in-depth in a public forum, NeoGAF.
Within the thread, he explains that the studio wants to fulfill the wishes of co-op and console support as soon as humanly possible. In order to fulfill such demands as fast as possible, they need to first prioritize supporting platforms that have the most users due to resource allocation.
“We’re a comparatively small indie studio, so doing a console port at the quality level we want is not a small task. Porting to Xbox means porting to Xbox Series X and Series S and that’ll take more time to optimize compared to porting to PS5 and PS5Pro,” he explained.
The studio is prioritizing PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro first with plans to supply other ports at a later, undisclosed date. This is not to say they do not have plans to release the game on Xbox consoles, but that the studio is being realistic with its resource allocations, prioritizing according to its own benchmarks and goals.
Moon Studios had previously announced its independence from Takes-Two Interactive in early March, having acquired the rights to continue working on No Rest for the Wicked. The initial early access for No Rest for the Wicked was published by Private Division, a subdivision within Takes-Two Interactive.
The development studio is most well-known for its work on the Ori series, which received widespread critical acclaim and sold over 15 million copies across its multiple titles.
