Ubisoft Red Storm saw a reduction in 19 job positions as a result of publisher’s attempt to restructure and reduce costs. According to IGN, 19 roles were reduced at the studios; no other Ubisoft locations were reportedly impacted.
Ubisoft told IGN that the decision was not easy, but necessary for the company’s operational priorities. The ones affected were given “comprehensive severance packages, extended health-care benefits, and career transition assistance.”
As of writing, the exact number of employees left at the studio remains undisclosed. Insider-Gaming received an email from Ubisoft stating that the changes are necessary for the company’s long-term resilience and to better align the structure to strategic goals.
The studio affected was previously known as Red Storm Entertainment. Red Storm Entertainment is based in North Carolina and was founded in November of 1996 by Tom Clancy. The studio most notably developed numerous Tom Clancy’s FPS titles, such as the Ghost Recon series and the Rainbow Six series.
Red Storm also worked on Far Cry titles and has evolved to taking a more supportive role within Ubisoft, contributing to VR development. Ubisoft acquired the studio in the year 2000. Two of Ubisoft Red Storm’s planned projects, Splinter Cell VR and the Division Heartland, were both cancelled.
