Epic Games Drops Antitrust Lawsuit Against Samsung Days Before New Phone Announcements

|
- Epic Games has dropped the antitrust lawsuit against Samsung a few days before the latter’s Galaxy Unpacked event.
- The lawsuit claims that Samsung and Google have agreed to put auto-blockers on their phones.
- In May, Epic Games won its long-running lawsuit against Apple.
On July 8, 2025, Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, published a post on X revealing that Epic Games had dropped the antitrust court case against Samsung. According to him, the two parties had a discussion and seem to have settled.
Sweeney did not clarify what kind of settlement was achieved. However, it’s worth noting that Epic Games sued Samsung, claiming that Samsung had agreed with Google to introduce an auto-blocker to their phones and activate it by default.
An auto-blocker prevents users from installing applications from unauthorized stores, including the Epic Games mobile app store. As such, Epic Games concluded that this is anticompetitive and is harmful to the market.
This announcement came a few days before Samsung is set to announce new phones at its annual Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. Technology outlets expect Samsung to announce the following devices during the event:
- Galaxy Z Fold7
- Z Flip7
- Z Flip7 FE
- New Smartwatches
Sweeney did not mention Google in his X post, which implies that the antitrust lawsuit against the company is still ongoing.
In May of this year, Epic Games scored a huge win regarding its long-running lawsuit against Apple. A few days after winning the lawsuit, Epic Games brought back its hit game Fortnite to the App Store.
