The Ascent is set in a futuristic dystopian world called Veles, controlled by a powerful megacorporation called the Ascent Group. In the game, players assume control of a worker enslaved by the megacorporation, who is trying to uncover the mystery behind the demise of the Ascent Group and also stop other factions from seizing control in Veles.
Developed by Swedish indie game studio Neon Giant and published by Curve Digital, The Ascent initially was released for Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on July 29, 2021, and then ported to PlayStation 4 and 5 on March 24, 2022.
As of the time of writing, The Ascent has a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam with 18,022 reviews and an all-time peak of 14,013 concurrent players, according to SteamDB. Besides that, the game has sold over 1 million copies worldwide across all platforms since its initial launch in 2021.
