Splitgate 2 Bleeds Players After Developer Layoffs and Despite Apologies from Director

Splitgate 2 has lost over 80% of its player base within a month of its launch on PlayStation 4|5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on June 6, 2025.
According to data provided by SteamDB, from its all-time peak of 25,785 concurrent players reached on June 7, 2025, Splitgate 2 managed to retain less than 4,000 users as its 48-hour peak on the weekend of July 5–6, 2025, which is only about 15% of the game’s highest achievement on Steam.

On top of that, on July 7, 2025, Splitgate 2 saw its lowest number of concurrent players, with only 920 users in the game. As of the time of writing, Splitgate 2 has a Mixed rating on Steam with 17,580 reviews.

The news comes two weeks after game developer 1047 Games executed layoffs, which followed a series of apologies from Splitgate 2 game director Ian Proulx.
Notably, the first title in the Splitgate series reached three times the higher online peak than its successor, with 67,724 concurrent players on Steam. The initial free-to-play multiplayer shooter in the franchise has achieved over 22 million downloads across PC and console platforms since its release in Early Access on PC on May 24, 2019.
