Romero Games Remains Open Despite Losing Funding

|
- Romero Games previously announced that the studio lost its funding for its upcoming project, resulting in the cancellation of the planned game.
- The studio remains open and is actively pursuing partnerships with other publishers.
- The studio is reassessing its staffing situation.
Romero Games provided an update on the studio’s status, which was presumed to be closed by various media outlets, including GameSpot. Romero Games announced that the studio remains open and is actively pursuing partnerships with other publishers.
Because of nondisclosure agreements, the studios in question could not be named, including the one that axed the funding and the future potential partners. Though GameSpot misreported the studio’s closure, Romero Games did not deny the claim that the publisher was Microsoft, which recently held widespread layoffs and budget cuts.
“Romero Games is not closed, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure that it does not come to that,” Romero Games stated on social media.
The cancellation of its upcoming game and the loss of its funding were not a result of Romero Games’ performance. According to a previous announcement, the team hit every milestone and consistently received high praise, allowing the project to pass all internal gates.
Romero Games was founded by John and Brenda Romero in 2015. John Romero is a legend in the game development sphere, having helped create Doom, Doom II, and various other iconic titles. His design philosophies helped pioneer the first-person shooter genre mechanics; he has worked on over 130 games.
