Team Fortress 2 Receives Mann vs. Machine Update in Two Parts

- Valve has recently released Team Fortress 2’s SDK to the public.
On June 24, 2025, Valve made a blog post regarding Team Fortress 2’s Mann vs Machine update. According to the developers, they’re looking to the community to help them create new maps and missions for the upcoming large update.
Players may submit their creations before August 27, when the first part of the update will be released. The next Mann vs. Machine update is coming on October 31. Valve did not elaborate on what kind of improvements will be implemented.
Mann vs. Machine was introduced on Aug. 15, 2012, in an update with the same name. It’s a co-op mode that allows a team of six players to fight against hordes of bots. The game mode currently has 29 missions and 5 operations, which are a succession of missions.
Valve has been leaning more towards community-driven updates for Team Fortress 2 as of late, and has even released the full software development kit (SDK) of the game for users to play around with.
The release of the SDK allows players to develop entirely new games using the engine Team Fortress 2 was built in; however, Valve has clarified that it is being released on a non-commercial basis, meaning anything developed with it must remain free.
