A reboot of 2004’s Painkiller, which carries the name of the original, got a release date – Oct. 9, 2025.

The upcoming title is developed by Anshar Studios and will be published by 3D Realms and Saber Interactive for PlayStation 5, Windows PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X|S, featuring cooperative multiplayer for up to three players with cross-play support. The game will cost $39.99 for the basic copy and $49.99 for the Deluxe Edition.

Painkiller reboot will offer players the option to choose one of four characters to follow: Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch, each featuring their own set of perks and enhancements to energy, health, power, or damage.

The upcoming title’s loadout will feature seven different weapons, including a savage multi-tool called Painkiller, designed for melee attacks that can hook and tear through enemies while restoring ammo with every kill.

The main story of the game will unfold as the protagonist, who is trapped in Purgatory for transgressions against Heaven, receives a chance from the Voice of the Creator to redeem themselves by disrupting the plans of the fallen angel Azazel to unleash his demonic armies onto Earth.

The original title was developed by the Polish game studio People Can Fly and published by DreamCatcher Interactive. The game received five expansions from different developers: 2004’s Painkiller: Battle Out of Hell, 2007’s Painkiller: Overdose, 2009’s Painkiller: Resurrection, 2011’s Painkiller: Redemption, and 2012’s Painkiller: Recurring Evil. In 2021, the game received a partial remake that also served as a sequel, built on Unreal Engine 3 and titled Painkiller: Hell & Damnation.
