Bend Studio Lays Off 40 Workers, Representing 30% of Workforce

Bend Studio laid off 30% of its workforce; 40 workers were reportedly affected. The initial story was reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. The report was later confirmed by Bend Studio’s official Instagram page, which posted an message bidding farewell to its employees.
“Today, we said goodbye to some incredibly talented teammates as we transition to our next project. […] This is a difficult moment for our team, but we hold immense respect for everyone who got us here,” the post reads.
The upcoming project was not detailed. Bend Studio had cancelled a live-service game earlier in the year.
The studio was founded in 1993 and is a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Bend Studio is best known for its work developing Days Gone, a post-apocalyptic adventure set in Oregon. The title has sold over 9 million copies as of January 2022. Days Gone won the Webby Award in 2020 for “Best Music and Sound Design” and was nominated for numerous other categories.
