Key points
  1. 90% of the video game development workforce responsible for Sigil VTT were reportedly laid off from the company.
  2. Sigil VTT is an unreal powered 3D virtual tabletop platform catered for D&D.
  3. The layoffs occurred only weeks after Sigil launched.

Wizards of the Coast laid off 30 members from the Sigil Team – a virtual tabletop platform that launched on February 27. The news was shared by Senior Writer, Andy Collins, who is currently looking for new opportunities in the field.

“I’m disappointed that we didn’t get to continue working toward the full experience that we imagined, but happy for the opportunity to work on an intriguing challenge with so many smart and dedicated folks,” he shared, insinuating that updates for Sigil VTT will be drastically hindered from the layoffs.

Sigil VTT launched in an arguably unfinished state – the developers had planned update cycles to help mold the D&D platform into the marketed vision. Though most of the developers were laid off, the tabletop is still up and running, available on PC.

For those looking to still give the tabletop a try, here are the system requirements to run Sigil:

Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit May 2020 update – version 2004
  • Video Card: Nvidia GTX 960, AMD R9 380, or Intel UHD GPU
  • Processor: Core i3-3225 3.3 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM

Recommended System Requirements

  • Video Card: Nvidia RTX 2080, AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, or equivalent DX12 GPU
  • Video Memory: 8 GB VRAM
  • Processor: Core i5-7300U 3.5 GHz, AMD Ryzen 3 3300U, or equivalent
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM or higher
  • Hard Drive: NVMe Solid State Drive

Sigil VTT is available for anyone with a D&D Beyond account. Master Tier subscribers receive extra content, such as a premade introductory adventure, a starter builder kit, and the ability to join multiplayer games.
