Key points
  1. The patch unlocks a former pre-order quest for all players and introduces new crossover events with Dead by Daylight and Balatro.
  2. Core updates include major parkour improvements, a reworked Photo Mode and economy rebalancing.
  3. The update follows Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ record-setting March launch, which surpassed 3 million players in its first week.

Ubisoft has released Title Update 1.0.5 for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, bringing new content, gameplay improvements and a major crossover event. The patch is now live across all platforms, with download sizes ranging from 3.3 GB on PS5 to 19 GB on Xbox Series X|S.

The developers made the pre-order bonus quest “Thrown to the Dogs” available to all players. The quest unlocks early in the game and rewards players with Tsuki-maru, a dog companion for the Hideout.

The update also introduces the game’s crossover events. The first, featuring Dead by Daylight (DBD), becomes accessible after unlocking Yasuke; completion grants player-themed cosmetics and a new mount inspired by DBD’s Maurice. A separate in-game pack featuring outfits, weapons and trinkets will be available in the store.

Another collaboration adds a Balatro-inspired trinket and amulet for Naoe and Yasuke, respectively. The items include a legendary perk that applies a random affliction on combo finishers — though players will have to discover how to unlock them in-game.

Among the most significant changes are upgrades to the parkour system that include a new vertical jump for grabbing overhangs, enhanced back and side ejects, and sprint toggle lock to improve movement fluidity. Ubisoft credits community feedback for driving these improvements.

Photo Mode receives what is claimed to be its most extensive overhaul in the franchise to date, adding features like time-of-day controls, character poses, headgear toggles, music playback, filter saving and other minor tweaks.

The title update also fixes multiple bugs, addressing issues ranging from glitched quests and desync warnings to unintended gear drops and economy exploits. The patch also rebalances crafting material availability and raises the price of merchant-sold resources “to encourage more world exploration and gameplay activities.”

Quest-related fixes address progression blockers in missions like “Diary of Lady Rokkaku,” “Vision of Realms” and “Showdown in Sakamoto.” Stealth and combat adjustments include correcting a bug with the Shinobi Bell and fixing a mislabeled +600% affliction perk (now accurately listed as 6%).

Platform-specific fixes target Xbox users, including restored Balanced Performance Mode for Series X (for monitors above 120Hz) and corrected thumbnail display in Photo Mode. Stability in custom Hideouts has also been improved.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched on March 20, 2025; the game achieved the second-highest day-one revenue in Assassin’s Creed history, trailing only Valhalla, and set a new record for Ubisoft’s digital launch on the PlayStation Store. Within 24 hours, it surpassed 1 million players, reaching 2 million in just two days, and over 3 million within a week. Shadows also topped US sales charts for three consecutive weeks and became the best-selling physical game of 2025 in the UK. On Steam, it peaked at 64,825 concurrent players, the highest for any Assassin’s Creed title on the platform.
