Owlcat Games Announces Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy as Franchise’s Next CRPG

Owlcat Games announced their next cPRG, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy – the upcoming video game is based on the preexisting tabletop RPG Dark Hersey, which takes place in the 41st millennium. Releasing on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, Warhammer 40,000 Dark Heresy has players control an Inquisitor, a servant to the High Lords of Terra and the Emperor.
Warhammer 40,000 Dark Heresy features five companions thus far. Here are all five companions, and a short description of their characteristics:
Epion Spes
“An Acolyte of the Inquisition and one of the top medicae specialists in the Tyrantine Cabal. She earned her place in the ranks of the Holy Inquisition with her outstanding intellect and her drive to serve Humanity flawlessly.”
Haymar Devos
“An Acolyte of the Inquisition and a combat specialist in military operations in the harshest of environments. A member of the illustrious Astra Militarum regiment from the death world of Catachan, Haymar has stared into death’s open maw many times over — and each time found a way to survive.”
Conscript 0-118-B (COGG)
“An Ogryn once assigned to the 27th Scintillan Fusiliers, a regiment of the Astra Militarum. Nicknamed “Cogg” for convenience, he is a member of a mutated human subspecies characterised by its immense stature, strength, and endurance.”
Ra’akhti
“A xenos from the Kroot race — humanoid predators capable of evolving by consuming the genetic material of other species. Ra’akhti was once a tracker in her tribe, one of her War Shaper’s closest followers, possessing the ability to sense others’ emotions and memories through the eating of flesh.”
Laarthyr Cairnareth
“An Aeldari Corsair — a member of the ancient xenos race and endowed with psychic powers. After entering into a precarious alliance with an radical Inquisitor, Laarthyr set foot on one of Humanity’s hive worlds, risking his life for his own mysterious ends.”
As of May 22, no release date has been revealed. The preorder for the title is available, with various purchase options providing diverse benefits. There are two main subcategories: Collectors Edition and Digital Packs. Collector’s Edition costs $289, and comes with various physical goods. Owlcat Games’ other titles, such as Pathfinder and Rogue Trader, also had their titles based on preexisting tabletops. Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader was the studio’s latest release, having debuted in December of 2023. Rogue Trader was awarded Windows Central’s 2024 Editor’s Choice Award, and was nominated for Best Sound Design. The title sold over 1 million copies.
