Key points
  1. A leaker speculates that the upcoming Xbox console will have windows based emulation.
  2. The same source claims the console will have Steam and Epic Games integration, alongside support backwards compatibility.
  3. Online communities remain skeptical regarding the legitimacy of the rumors.

A leaker with alias eXtas1s claims that the upcoming Xbox console will have full backwards compatibility for the preexisting catalog of titles alongside windows based emulation. In theory, this would allow the console to play the entire Xbox library on Windows — the operating system the next generation 2027 Xbox console is believed to support.

”Microsoft has just added the Steam application to the support software for its devices, appearing under the name of Steam Developer Beta,” eXtas1s said on their podcast, adding to the list of supposed features to be included in the upcoming console.

In March, Gaming.News reported on marketing materials from Microsoft that seemed to hint at Steam being added to the Microsoft Store. In it, a small tag called “Steam” can be seen on the new user interface. The Verge also reported on it and mentioned that Microsoft removed the materials after the outlet pointed it out.

eXtas1s also believes Epic Games will be integrated onto the Xbox console, thereby cooperating with various PC competitors rather than attempt to completely distinguish itself in the gaming market.

Some of eXtas1s’ claims have come to fruition, including accurately predicting the release of a new Gears of War Trilogy remaster and Forza Horizon’s PlayStation 5 release. An online community remain largely skeptical to the leakers claim, eagerly awaiting more reliable news to see if the source is reliable.
