- Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, said it’s unlikely that GTA VI will be delayed again.
- Besides that, discussing the upcoming 2026 release, Zelnick said it’s unlikely that GTA VI will be delayed again.
- Take-Two’s executive said that he hadn’t played GTA VI and that he is not a gamer.
Speaking to CNBC, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, said the delay of GTA VI was rather short, amounting to “less than six months,” and that it is unlikely the game will be delayed again.
Notably, Rockstar never confirmed a specific GTA VI release date after the release of the first trailer, only stating that it would come out in Fall 2025. Meanwhile, GTA VI’s recently confirmed release date, announced alongside the launch of the game’s second trailer, is May 26, 2026.
If the delay was less than six months, as Strauss said, it seems that Rockstar was originally eyeing a late November 2025 or early December 2025 release date for the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
Besides that, discussing the upcoming 2026 release, Zelnick said it’s unlikely that the game will be delayed again: “Generally, when we announce a date, we’re able to hit that date.”
In the same interview with CNBC, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive was asked if he has played GTA VI already. Answering the question, the executive said that he hadn’t played GTA VI and declared, “I’m not a gamer. I don’t play video games.”
The news comes on the heels of Strauss Zelnick justifying the delay of the next GTA, with Rockstar aiming for perfection in developing the game.
GTA VI is planned to be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, traditionally missing the PC version.
As of February 2025, the predecessor of GTA VI, and the fifth numbered entry in the series, has sold over 210 million copies worldwide, making it the second best-selling video game of all time, behind only Minecraft, which has sold 350 million units.
