Take-Two CEO Justifies GTA VI Delay to 2026 With Rockstar Seeking Perfection Amid Company’s Net Loss in Q4 FY25

- CEO of Take-Two stated that the GTA VI was delayed as Rockstar is aiming for perfection in developing the game.
- Zelnick stated that Take-Two’s financial outlook for the coming year is largely fixed and unlikely to change even facing tariffs.
- In 2025, Take-Two is bringing to Nintendo Switch 2 Civilization 7 (June 5), some NBA 2K and WWE 2K titles and Borderlands 4 (Sept. 12).
Getting closer to the completion of a title that is aiming for perfection, it became clear whether further polish was needed or not, stated Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, about the delay of GTA VI in recent talks with IGN.
“In this case, there was an opportunity with a small amount of incremental time, we thought, to make sure Rockstar Games achieves its creative vision with no limitations. And I supported, of course, that approach,” Zelnick said.
Zelnick also told IGN that despite the GTA VI delay, he feels really good about what the company has coming up in 2025, including Gearbox’s Borderlands 4, Hangar 13’s Mafia: The Old Country, and new games in its NBA 2K and WWE 2K franchises.
On top of that, according to the recently released Take-Two Interactive’s financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2025, the company sees a net loss due to impairment charges of $3.55 billion related to goodwill and $176.3 million for acquisition-related intangible assets.
In the fourth quarter, the company reported net revenue of $1.583 billion, reflecting a 12% increase year-over-year. It recorded a net loss of $3.73 billion, compared to a loss of $2.9 billion in the same quarter the previous year. Total net bookings for the quarter reached $1.582 billion, marking a 13% year-over-year increase.
For the full fiscal year, net revenue was $5.63 billion, representing a 5% rise compared to the previous year. The net loss for the year totaled $4.48 billion, up from a $3.74 billion loss in the prior fiscal year. Total net bookings amounted to $5.65 billion, showing a 6% year-over-year growth.
On top of that, in talks with IGN, Zelnick highlighted that Take-Two’s financial outlook for the coming year is largely fixed and unlikely to change even facing tariffs, “Our guide is for the next ten months, essentially, that’s the part of the fiscal year that hasn’t elapsed yet, and it’s very difficult to predict where tariffs will land, given how things have bumped around so far. We feel reasonably confident that our guide wouldn’t be meaningfully affected unless tariffs ran off in a very different direction than we currently expect. In any case, there’s already a very substantial install base for all of our target platforms except Nintendo Switch 2, which is pre-launch. So we have, I think, enough insight that we wouldn’t be affected by any changes.”
It is worth noting that in 2025, Take-Two is bringing to Nintendo Switch 2 Civilization 7 (June 5, console’s launch day), some titles of the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (unclear date) and Borderlands 4 (Sept. 12).
