100 Thieves announced on X that it has signed Sean “Shine” Simpson as the very first fighting game player to be affiliated with the esports team. Shine is a Street Fighter 6 player who mainly uses Ed and Kimberly.
While he hasn’t been winning major tournaments in Street Fighter 6 lately, he’s still a very potent threat in every bracket, as he’s won Street Fighter League US 2024 and reached second place in Street Fighter League World Championship 2024 while playing for FlyQuest.
His signing with 100 Thieves is the organization’s first foray into fighting games. It is mostly known for its Valorant, League of Legends, Apex Legends and Marvel Rivals teams. Additionally, this is also Shine’s first signing with a major esports organization.
Shine’s next tournament is Combo Breaker 2025, according to his X post. The tournament will be held in Illinois from May 23 to May 25. It will feature a lot of fighting games, from classic ones like Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo to modern ones like Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6.
While Shine is known to dabble in other fighting games, his main game has always been Street Fighter. He started competing in Street Fighter 4 but started the grind during his Street Fighter 5 era, where he had a couple of good placings in major tournaments.
