Supercell Reboots Squad Busters, Admits Initial Celebrity Ads Did Not Work As Intended

|
- Supercell admitted that the initial celebrity launch campaign didn’t work out.
- The team is now focusing on bringing new people into the game, but also trying to entice lapsed players back to giving it another shot.
- Squad Busters was released on May 29, 2024.
Supercell recently talked with Mobilegamer.biz about Squad Busters’ recent soft reboot, as well as the game’s shortcomings compared to the other games made by the studio. Squad Busters marketing lead Rob Lowe revealed that the game’s initial launch campaign didn’t quite work.
“The reason you do celebrity campaigns is to get the attention of an audience that wouldn’t ordinarily look at a mobile game advert, right? So the strategy is reasonably sound, but it is also expensive,” he told Mobilegamer.biz when asked about the game’s launch campaign, which included a collection of celebrities such as Chris Hemsworth and Ken Jeong.
According to Lowe, they are taking a different approach with Squad Busters 2.0. The team is now trying to bring new players into the game, as well as entice lapsed players to start playing the game again.
Recently, Squad Busters received an update that changed the core mechanics of the game slightly. Players are now able to choose which Squaddies to bring. A hero system has also been introduced, which acts as the squad’s leader and influences how the squad should be played.
In April, App2Top released a report showcasing the daily earnings and downloads each Supercell game is getting. In it, mo.co, the game’s monster hunting game sits at the very bottom, while Squad Busters sits on top of it, earning $41,000 daily and being downloaded 13,600 per day.
Squad Busters was released on May 29, 2024, for mobile. It’s a battle-royale game featuring iconic Supercell characters, featuring units from Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and many more.
