Split Fiction Surpasses 4 Million Sales, Nearly Doubling EA’s Expectations

- Split Fiction has sold over 4 million copies since launch, doubling EA’s expectations.
- The game was widely praised for its inventive co-op mechanics, lack of in-app purchases and reasonable launch price.
- A Switch 2 version launches next month, and a film adaptation is also in the works.
Hazelight’s narrative co-op title Split Fiction has sold more than 4 million copies since launch, publisher Electronic Arts announced during its Q4 FY2025 earnings report. EA praised the game’s performance as “hugely successful,” with sales nearly twice what the company had projected.
The game debuted on March 5, 2025, and hit 1 million units sold within 48 hours. That number doubled by the end of the first week. The marketing push was accompanied by the Guinness Book of Records creating three record categories for Split Fiction—fastest to 1 million and 2 million units sold and most played on Steam—records the game predictably broke.
The game’s success contributed to what EA called a “strong finish” for its fiscal year ending March 31, alongside Dragon Age: The Veilguard and EA Sports FC 25. “Q4 marked a strong finish to FY25, with broad-based momentum across the portfolio,” said chief financial officer Stuart Canfield.
Split Fiction, developed by the studio behind It Takes Two, features mandatory co-op gameplay but allows partner access without requiring both players to own the game. It also launched at $49.99 without microtransactions—an increasingly rare move for a major publisher.
The game is scheduled to launch on Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 next month, a move likely to further boost its sales figures.
A film adaptation is also in development, with Sydney Sweeney attached to star and produce and Jon M. Chu (Wicked) set to direct.
