Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sold Faster on Steam Compared to Anime-Style JRPGs

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold faster on Steam than games such as Metaphor: ReFantazio, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Persona 5 Royal. Additionally, it’s also performing well on the PlayStation but couldn’t quite eclipse the sales figure of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the console.

Alinea Analytics has compiled the sales figures of multiple JRPG games on Steam within the first six days of their launches to compare which games sold faster, and the answer was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It sold 785,200 copies within the first six days. The next JRPG that followed was Metaphor: ReFantazio, which sold 346,600, a difference of more than 400,000.

Additionally, the analytics company found that one-third of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s sales came from China.

PlayStation 5, on the other hand, was tilted more toward Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which is expected, considering the franchise’s history with the console. Rebirth sold around 1.4 million copies within the first six days of launch, while Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 only sold around 343,900 copies.

When talking about Xbox sales, Alinea mentioned that the number of copies sold was “extremely low.” It attributed this to Game Pass cannibalizing the sales of premium games, especially if they’re being added to the catalog on day one.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a JRPG created by Sandfall Interactive. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The developers announced that the game sold 1 million copies just three days after its release.
