FragPunk has announced its first official esports tournament, the FragPunk Global Invitational. Set to run from April 28 to June 7, 2025, the event will see teams from seven regions battle for a $200,000 prize pool and the World Clash Championship Trophy.
Players from seven regions, led by a high-profile captain responsible for building their team through open qualifiers, will participate in the event. In 2025, the roster of regions includes Germany, France, North America, Brazil, Russia, mainland China and Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan (HMT). Among the first confirmed captains are Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, a former VALORANT star, and Dmitrii “Recrent” Osintsev, a Russian battle royale streamer.
FragPunk is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on April 29, 2025, while its initial launch was originally set to occur simultaneously with the PC release on March 6, 2025. The game’s console launch was postponed by NetEase due to several optimization and adaptation challenges just a day before the scheduled release.
It is worth noting that in March 2025, FragPunk mocked Mountaintop Studios’ closure on X, leading to a public apology after backlash. The controversy erupted when FragPunk shared an image poking fun at Mountaintop’s shutdown that occurred as the studio’s flagship title, Spectre Divide, failed to generate sufficient revenue to sustain development. As of the time of writing, Fragpunk has dropped to a 24-hour peak of 9,651 concurrent players on Steam from the 113,946 all-time peak that happened three days after launch.
