Publisher 2K has officially teamed up with The Play Company (TPC) to launch Play NBA 2K, a new tournament service that lets US players enter weekly competitions with real-money prizes.

The new platform is live as of today, April 17, 2025 and is built directly into TPC’s Play OS system, availaible for gamers via the Play Now section in-game.

Tournaments will be both free and paid-entry, depending on the player’s age and state regulations. Free entry events are open to players 13+ (except in Arizona), while paid-entry competitions are limited to U.S. players 18+ in eligible states.

“This is a major milestone, not just for us, but for the industry,” said Brandon Pitts, CEO of The Play Company. “We’re unlocking the ability for NBA 2K players to earn real cash prizes through competitive play.”

TPC, previously known as One Up, has a history with NBA 2K and already operates its own app where players organize competitions in other games like Madden NFL, Call of Duty, and Fortnite.

Under the partnership, TPC will manage all tournament operations while 2K handles promotion, integration, and education. There’s even a new button in the Play Now menu that explains how to enter. The initial rollout includes tournaments in Play Now and MyTEAM modes, with more formats and marquee events planned in the coming months.

“For us, this is all about meeting our community where they are and giving them new ways to compete,” said Ronnie Singh, Head of Lifestyle and Content Marketing at 2K. “The Play Company brings the infrastructure to make it all possible.”
