A new patch for Path of Exile 2 aimed at toning down enemy aggression and improving gameplay readability has been deployed by Grinding Gear Games. The move comes after the title saw its Steam review fall to Mostly Negative.

The latest patch, which is now live, addresses complaints about monster speed and overwhelming enemy behavior. Key changes include nerfing specific enemy abilities, reducing monster density in some areas, and tweaking behaviors so that faster monsters are less relentless.

Several frustrating bosses, like Viper Napuatzi and Uxmal, have also been tuned down. Uxmal, for instance, now teleports less often and no longer recharges its energy shield while flying. Meanwhile, visibility issues in certain arenas have been fixed by removing dense ground foliage, which also received general optimization to help improve performance.

“Many players reported being overwhelmed by monsters,” the dev team stated in the patch notes. “We are addressing them on a case-by-case basis.”

But it is not just monsters getting reined in. The update also tweaks how minions revive, making the mechanic less punishing when large groups die at once. On the player side, all runes now work with Wands and Staves, and a new Blank Rune can be forged into any elemental rune of the player’s choosing.

Grinding Gear Games states that this is just the beginning. A number of planned fixes didn’t make it into this patch, including inconsistent monster density in certain rooms and some animation-dependent behavior changes. Future updates will also target underwhelming systems like Charms, with promised improvements to the Stash Tab system and Atlas bookmarking.

A sequel to Path of Exile (2013), Path of Exile 2, was released as a paid early access title for Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on Dec. 6, 2024.

In its first month, Path of Exile 2 surpassed one million key redemptions, according to the game’s director, Jonathan Rogers. On top of that, the game reached a peak of 578,569 concurrent players on Steam.
