- According to the game’s director, Marvel Rivals devs will address the title’s high RAM usage in Season 2 via an experimental check box.
- The shooter’s performance issues have worsened for users with 16GB RAM despite being listed as the recommended spec.
- Marvel Rivals Season 2 is scheduled to begin on April 11, 2025.
NetEase is aware of Marvel Rivals’ massive RAM hog, and the fix for it is in the works, planned for release in Season 2, according to the game’s director, Guangyun Chen.
In an interview with PC Gamer at GDC 2025, Marvel Rivals director Guangyun Chen confirmed that NetEase is planning to introduce a fix for the game’s high memory consumption in the form of an experimental check box in the title’s launcher. “So it may be that in Season 2, we will have an experimental check box in our launcher players can use to reduce memory [consumption] significantly.,” said Guangyun Chen.
Despite Rivals officially listing 16GB as the recommended spec, some users have found the game borderline unplayable unless they upgraded to 32GB, likely due to the title’s use of Unreal Engine 5.
It is worth noting that Marvel Rivals Season 2 is scheduled to begin on April 11, 2025. “It’s a very big problem, but it’s a lot of work to organize [a fix],” game’s director. “We cannot just release it in a small patch, we have to fully test it,” added Guangyun Chen hinting that a RAM issue fix should not be expected simultaneously with the new season launch but further as it goes along.
It is worth noting that earlier this year, NetEase laid off multiple employees, including the Seattle-based design team, which was part of a global network supporting Marvel Rivals.
In terms of financial performance, Marvel Rivals generated approximately $135 million in revenue across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S during its first month. The game attracted over 10 million registered users within the first 72 hours and surpassed 40 million players by February 2025.
