Take-Two Takes Down GTA V Fan-Made Map Mod

- The GTA VI map mod for GTA V by Dark Space is taken down by Take-Two.
- Dark Space believes the mod was too accurate, spoiling the surprise of the GTA 6 map.
- Earlier this year, Take-Two shut down another GTA fun-made project, the GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition.
The GTA VI map mod for GTA V was taken down by Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, the developer of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
The mod, crafted by a creator known as Dark Space, brought a map of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI to the fifth installment of the series in January 2025. It was a free-to-download playable version of the GTA VI map based on leaked coordinate data and official trailer shots.
The project has now been officially removed after Take-Two issued a copyright strike on Dark Space’s YouTube channel.
As a consequence of the strike, Dark Space was forced to remove all download links to the mod despite not having been directly contacted by Take-Two. In his response video, he expressed his understanding of the situation. Also, he suggested that the takedown was likely a result of his map’s accuracy, which he believes might have spoiled some of the game’s surprises.
It is not the first case of Take-Two aggressively protecting its intellectual property leading to the removal of fan projects. In January 2025, Take-Two shut down the GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition, which brought 2002’s Vice City world, cutscenes, and missions into 2008’s GTA 4.
