- Rockstar is developing an official modding tool for GTA 5 Enhanced to restore compatibility with older mods.
- GTA 5 Enhanced has become the worst-rated Grand Theft Auto game on Steam due to missing mod support and migration issues.
- The original GTA V has been removed from Steam following the Enhanced release.
Rockstar is developing an official modding tool for Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced, allowing older mods to become compatible with the upgraded version. The tool is being created by Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, which Rockstar acquired in 2023 to support its growing modding community.
Cfx.re announced that while there is no official release date yet, the tool is in its final development stages. The team plans to launch it alongside comprehensive documentation to assist modders in adapting their assets to the Enhanced edition. The announcement comes after significant backlash from PC players, as GTA 5 Enhanced does not support existing mods from the original version.
Since its launch on March 4, GTA 5 Enhanced has become the worst-rated Grand Theft Auto title on Steam. Two biggest sources of frustration for players have been malfunctioning data migration and the lack of compatibility with existing mods, which had been a core part of the game’s PC experience for nearly a decade. Combined with the removal of the original GTA 5 from Steam, the Enhanced edition has been flooded with negative reviews, criticizing Rockstar’s handling of the release.
Originally released in 2013 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 210 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling video games of all time. The game has generated, according to various sources, an estimated $9 billion in revenue on PC and across multiple console generations.
