Game Informer Hints at Revival One Year After Its Closure

- Game Informer is teasing a comeback on March 25 by posting a video entitled “Continue?”
- Former employees have also posted similar teasers on their social media pages.
- GameStop shut Game Informer down in August 2024.
On March 19, Game Informer social media accounts posted a teaser video which alludes to the possibility of the outlet’s revival. The video is named “Continue?” and contains the date March 25, 2025.
The video they posted has a laptop screen with the farewell post that they wrote in August 2024 opened. The bottom right corner of the screen contains “{CONSOLE.WRITELINE(CONTINUE?);”. A moment after that, the screen fades and shows the date March 25, 2025.
The “continue” part of the video has sparked rumors of the publication’s possibility of being revived. To further add fuel to the fire, Brian Shea, the former Online Content Director of Game Informer, posted a status which contained the same words with a “Yes” or “No” option.
When The Verge reached out to Brian Shea to confirm the news, Shea told them to check out the social media posts of his former colleagues. Surely enough, there was also a post from Matt Miller, the former Editor-in-Chief of Game Informer, that’s similar to what Shea posted.
GameStop shut down Game Informer in August 2024 in an abrupt closure that left employees without the opportunity to archive their work. It remains unclear whether this potential revival will restore past articles and magazine issues on the website.
Game Informer was a monthly video game magazine that launched in 1991. The publication was acquired by GameStop in 2000. As of June 2017, Game Informer was the fifth-most popular magazine by circulation.
