- Warzone is testing 150-player lobbies in standard battle royale matches, implementing changes based on player feedback.
- Warzone originally launched with 150-player matches before the player count was later reduced to 100 and then increased to 120.
- Season 3 update may bring back Verdansk and introduce an “OG” season similar to Fortnite’s nostalgic events.
Raven Software is experimenting with 150-player lobbies in Call of Duty: Warzone, temporarily increasing the player count in standard battle royale playlists. The studio stated this test will run intermittently, with adjustments based on player feedback, performance, and match flow. Ranked modes remain unaffected.
Warzone originally launched with 150-player matches in 2020, but Activision later reduced the count to 100 in 2023 before increasing it to 120 in 2024, citing matchmaking speed and game flow. However, player demand for larger lobbies has remained strong, prompting this latest test.
The timing of this change coincides with the upcoming Season 3 update, rumored to bring back Verdansk and introduce an “OG” season reminiscent of Fortnite’s nostalgic events. If successful, the 150-player count could become a permanent feature in Warzone once again.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, released on October 25, 2024, became the biggest release in the franchise’s history with unprecedented day-one player counts and new Game Pass subscribers. The game was the best-selling title of 2024 and ranked #1 in U.S. video game sales in January 2025.
