- Phasmophobia adds voice recognition to consoles which puts the console releases on par with the PC version.
- Previously, Spirit Boxes were left to the PC and VR players when playing crossplay with console players because of the console’s lack of voice recognition.
- Phasmophobia’s console version was released in October 2024.
Kinetic Games has finally added voice recognition capabilities to consoles in its most recent updates. This update finally puts the version on par with Steam and Virtual Reality (VR) releases of the game.
Phasmophobia’s console version receiving the voice recognition update is a huge thing for console users. There are a few items in Phasmophobia that require players to use their mics to interact with it. The Spirit Box, for example, allows the player to communicate with the ghost but it requires players to speak to it using their microphones.
Because of this new update, crossplay between players from Steam and VR are going to be even more smooth as there are no limitations for console players. Previously, PC players and VR players were always on Spirit Box or Ouija Board duties. Now, console players are able to join in on the fun of talking to ghosts.
In February 2025, the developers of Phasmophobia revealed their road map for the year of 2025 and beyond. It includes a rework of three maps as well as two major updates with one of them improving the character models that are already in the game. The road map also mentioned Horror 2.0, which is considered as the full release of the game. However, that version won’t come this year but instead will come in 2026.
Phasmophobia was released on consoles in October 2024, four years after its initial release on PC. According to the developers, the game has two million copies across PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR2, and Xbox Series X/S. Its PC version has become a top seller on Steam in 2020.
