- Team Liquid has signed an American and Italian chess grandmaster, Fabiano Caruana.
- Caruana’s debut under the Team Liquid banner will happen at the 2025 Champions Chess Tour Chessable Masters.
- Fabiano is a four-time National Championship winner both in the US and Italy.
Team Liquid signed reigning four-time US Chess Champion Fabiano Caruana ahead of the 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where chess is going to debut as an official competition.
Caruana is the third-highest-rated player in history, with a peak rating of 2844 in the International Chess Federation’s world rankings. At the time of writing, Fabiano is second only to Magnus Carlsen on the list of FIDE’s top players.
The esports organization Team Liquid, which fields teams in games like League of Legends, Dota 2, and Valorant, will see Caruana represent them in major chess events, starting with the 2025 Champions Chess Tour Chessable Masters.
Fabiano joins Team Liquid after securing his fourth title at the 2024 US Chess Championship. He also brings experience from his successful career in international chess, having previously won the Italian National Championship four times.

“I am really excited to join Team Liquid, an organization with a long heritage of success,” Caruana said. “Playing for a team like Liquid and being a part of a wider community can add something new to chess and bring the game to a wider audience.”
